Indecent Exposure

Indecent Exposure is a criminal offence under Section 66 of the Sexual Offences Act 2003. It occurs when an individual intentionally exposes their genitals in circumstances where they intend for someone to see them and be caused alarm or distress by the act. This offence applies equally to both men and women and can take place in public or private settings, though it is most frequently associated with public spaces.

The severity of the penalty for Indecent Exposure depends on various factors, including the circumstances of the offence and the offender’s criminal history. While many cases result in a fine or community order, imprisonment is possible up to a period of two years at the Crown Court.

Conviction also typically leads to the offender having to sign the Sex Offenders Register, which can often have long-term implications on a persons personal and professional life.

Given the serious consequences associated with a conviction for Indecent Exposure, it is essential to seek legal advice if you are under investigation or facing charges. An experienced solicitor can assess your case, advise on potential defences, and represent you effectively throughout the legal process. We are able to provide representation at the outset in police station interview, through to the Magistrates Court and the Crown Court.
